Valarae Windwrath’s parents were the leaders of a thieves guild called the Nightshade Guild. They worked in the shadows in Darnassus. Valarae always wanted to be in charge, but she had to prove herself to her parents first.
Valarae was an expert planner, and was very good at sneaking into places. She led many of their heists. She was also skilled with her blades, in case she had to fight. But the guild usually avoided confrontation as much as possible. Because secrecy was key.
One day, while she was on a mission in Feralas, she found a little boy wandering around in the woods. His name was Shadeith Nightscar, and he was from a nearby village. Valarae, annoyed about being interrupted, brought the kid back to his home. But, during their journey, she started liking the kid. He seemed like he could keep her secret.
Valarae then went on with her task. This was a different type of mission, not theft or pillaging–but assassination. She was supposed to kill the leader of the Shadowseekers, a violent group of rogue sentinels. The Shadowseekers knew of the Nightshade Guild’s existence, which Valarae’s parents could not allow.
She reached the Shadowseekers’ camp. She got into a fight with an archer–Illilas Feathermist. And he defeated her. He chose to spare her life. She decided to run.
When she got back to Darnassus, her parents were disappointed in her. She was demoted, no longer a general–she was back to being a rookie. She was no longer allowed to lead teams. She always had to be under supervision. She hated this.
Eventually, she got so fed up, she decided to leave the guild, and do her own thing. She still stole things, but for herself, not for the guild. Whenever she felt like it, she helped others fight deadly threats. Her plan, in the long run, was to have her own thieves guild.
And she still has yet to achieve her goal.
